I’m Courtney, a certified school counselor, digital creator, and passionate advocate for kids’ mental health and social-emotional growth. I’ve worked as an elementary school counselor since 2019, serving students in grades K–5, and I create digital SEL resources to help other educators, counselors, and families support the children in their lives.
My journey into school counseling didn’t start with my own school experience—in fact, it was quite the opposite. As a child, I faced a lot of personal struggles and never really felt I had a supportive adult at school I could turn to. I worked my way through elementary, middle, high school, and college, not quite sure of the path I was headed. I had people that cared about me, but I never felt I really had guidance. I enrolled in graduated school to become a mental health counselor. In one of my introductory courses, a school counselor visited our class and spoke about their role. I had considered school counseling before, but as she spoke about her role, something clicked for me, and I knew: This is exactly what I want to do.
I wanted to be the person I needed when I was younger—someone who listens, encourages, and helps kids navigate big feelings and tough situations with confidence and care.
I believe all kids deserve to feel seen, safe, and supported. I take a trauma-informed, empathetic, and inclusive approach to counseling—one that recognizes each student’s unique needs, strengths, and experiences.
Before becoming a school counselor, I worked in mental health counseling across a variety of settings, including:
A correctional facility
Foster care and adoption support
Substance use counseling
This background has given me a deep understanding of the diverse challenges children and families face, and it fuels my commitment to creating practical, compassionate resources for all learners.
I started designing digital SEL resources as a fun side project—but it quickly became a meaningful way to combine my creativity with my mission. I often found myself searching for tools I wished existed. Now I create them for others, too!
On my Teachers Pay Teachers store, you’ll find:
SEL lesson plans & printables
Counseling games & journals
Handouts & resources for caregivers and teachers
Tools that are easy to implement but make a lasting impact
When I’m not in counseling mode, you’ll probably find me thrifting for hidden treasures, soaking up the sun with my pets, or curled up with a cup of coffee and a new creative project. I share my home (and heart!) with Pancake the dog and Marmalade the cat, my loyal companions in both work and play.
Whether you’re a fellow counselor, a classroom teacher, or a caregiver looking for support, I’m so glad you’re here. Explore my blog, check out my resources, or just reach out and say hello—I'm always happy to connect.
